bee is working but columbia thinks different......
---As previously elucidated, Beyoncé's upcoming album, 4, doesn't really have any singles. (Nitsuh Abebe offers a pretty good reason as to why here.) So how's her label, Columbia, feeling about this? Says a "Page Six" source: "They're very nervous ... It doesn't have the hit songs that her fans are used to. They asked her to make changes, but she said no." Plausible! But, from some other person: "Beyoncé's career has stalled a bit. Columbia seems to think they can get some mileage out of a comeback record with [Destiny's Child]." Wait. What? No. That is not a thing that's happening. And from yet some other person: "[Kelly Rowland] has her own solo career now, why would she want to be singing back up for Beyoncé?" Stop it. So, in conclusion: 4 still doesn't have any singles; Bey's career is just fine, thanks; and Kelly Rowland, despite her surprising recent chart presence, is not too famous to sing back up for Beyoncé.

Lil Wayne is gearing up to release Tha Carter IV, his highly anticipated follow up to 2008’s multi-platinum smash album, Tha Carter III, but before putting the long delayed disc on shelves, XXL sat down with Mr. Carter in Miami’s Quad Studios for our forthcoming July/August 2011 issue to speak on everything from his recording process, his retirement plans, Drake and Nicki Minaj’s success, and why he’ll never record with pop sensation Justin Bieber.
Writer Shaheem Reid, chopped it up with Weezy in Miami about how a rapper as prolific as himself, was able to actually select tracks for Tha Carter IV. Asked, when he knew that the album was ready, Wayne said: “You don’t. When they tell you. When [manager Cortez Bryant] call me and tell me and say, ‘You got such and such date is your deadline to stop,’ I be like, ‘Aight.’ ’Cause I never stop recording, obviously. So it’s just on him to say, “Okay, stop. We’re gonna pick these songs, and that’s the album.’ That’s how we do it.”
Fans might ask what fills the contents of such songs? Weezy explains: “What is good about me is that I’m an interesting muthafucka. I’m Dwayne Michael Carter period! Whether I’m a rapper or not, I’m interesting. And that’s what my album’s gonna be about: me and how interesting I am.”
The Young Money leader also revealed to XXL that he plans to retire soon and hints at C4 possibly being his last offering. “I’m bowing out still on top,” he says. “I’ma make y’all want me when I retire. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘Nooo!’ I ain’t leaving out this bitch when y’all be like, ‘Yeah, it’s about time, dawg.’ Carter IV might be my last one. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘Fuck!’ Yeah, nigga, I’m gone.”
Wayne saying being a good father to his children would be the cause for an retirement. “Honestly, this is the real truth,” he says. “I honestly think it’s unfair to my kids. I’m super dedicated into what I do. Like, it’s no questions—it’s hands down, I do this. I live this. I don’t have a day out my week that I do something else. I do this every day of my life, and I’m not about to stop, ’cause that’s the only way you can succeed in this business, is to do it the way I do it. I want to succeed the way I want to succeed. You can succeed. You can put out a hit… But to do it the way I want to do it, to be comfortable to do what the fuck I want to do, you’ve got to work like no other. Like I said, it’s unfair to my kids. So about 30, 31, 32, I gotta get ready.
Luckily for Wayne his superstar Young Money signees, Drake and Nicki Minaj, are sure to keep his pockets fat in his absence. In fact, Birdman, Jr. counts on it. “You already know what I expect,” Weezy says of Drizzy and Nick’s imminent success. “I expect to eat, and eat well. I expect [Drake] to be a lot more successful than he has ever been. I mean, this guy’s a superstar. He is the definition. That’s what I told y’all before he was: ‘That’s the definition of a superstar.’ And like Nicki, he’s only breaking ice. He has yet to be who he’s going to be. I’m banking on them.”
While fans can expect to hear both Heartbreak Drake and Ms. Minaj on Tha Carter IV, it’s the two Justin’s that Weezy F. also talks about. “That’s my little homie now,” Wayne says of The Biebs. “He texts me every night asking me to do [his] damn song. That’s my nigga, but I can’t do it. Like I said, I don’t want to fuck his shit up. But like I said, I want to work with Justin Timberlake. That boy got a voice; that boy can sing. He needs to come back right there on Tha Carter IV.”
Along with Lil Wayne, XXL’s July/August 2011 issue also features interviews with Weezy’s buddy, Justin Bieber, out-there interviewer Nardwuar, and producer Boi-1da. In addition XXL investigates hip-hop’s controversial history with homophobia, while also sitting down with the rap world’s most colorful, heterosexual couple, Ice-T & Coco and much, much more.
XXL’s July/August 2011 issue will hit newsstands nationwide on July 12.

Jay-Z performs during a concert at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 13, 2010, in New York. CAPTIONBy Jason DeCrow, APNew York's Droga5 took the top prize in the Outdoor category for an innovative campaign that both promoted the capabilities of Microsoft's search engine Bing, as well as raised awareness of the new Jay-Z memoir Decoded.
In a scavenge hunt-like fashion, Bing offered up online clues to where single pages of the new autobiography could be located. And they turned up in incredibly unlikely places, such as printed on plates at a New York City restaurant.
While they locations were odd, they were relevant to the book's content. For example, the printed plates were at the same restaurant where the rapper and former U.S. President Bill Clinton had dinner.
Pages were also placed on a pool table, on burger wrappers and even at the bottom of a hotel swimming pool. The ensuing buzz helped Jay-Z to boost his Facebook fan group by about 1 million. Bing garnered a nearly 12% rise in visits during the campaign.

WORLD'S OLDEST BOTTLE of WINE
Unearthed during excavation for building a house in a vineyard near the town of Speyer, Germany, it was inside one of two Roman stone sarcophaguses that were dug up. The bottle dates from approximately 325 A.D. and was found in 1867.
The greenish-yellow glass amphora has handles formed in the shape of dolphins. One of several bottles discovered, it is the only one with the contents still preserved.
The ancient liquid has much silty sediment. About two-thirds of the contents are a thicker, hazy mixture. This is most probably olive oil, which the Romans commonly used to "float" atop wine to preserve it from oxidation. Cork closures, although known to exist at the time, were quite uncommon. Their oil method of preservation was apparently effective enough to keep the wine from evaporation up to modern day.
The bottle is on permanent display, along with other wine antiquities, at the Historisches Museum der Pfalz (History Museum of the Pfalz), worth a visit if traveling near the area of Speyer, Germany.

Everybody talk and everybody listen, but somehow it's always the truth that comes up missing.
Once again, The homie 40 pours out a track of congealed black bile and beats like labored breaths, while Drake sings a shrunken, moldy version of “I’m On One” until his boasts peter out. These aren’t insults. They’re the precise mood Drake wants, his voice halfway between a sigh and slur–except when it’s literally a slur, his phrases and melodies falling away, his tone drowned in bleary autotune and his words unintelligible. It’s the sound of someone too depressed to even know he’s depressed, and “Trust Issues” reproduces it eerily well.
Take the first post-”I’m On One” section, where Drake mumbles “I don’t trust these bitches / they might catch me slipping” about fifteen separate times, as if he’s stuck on the thought. He’s technically worried about getting his drink spiked, although he mutters so often about getting wasted, being faded, that you’re not sure what else someone could possibly spike it with.
Then there’s the rap, stumbling between self-pity, passive-aggressive misanthropy and inflated self-regard every other phrase: “I can tell certain people don’t like me no more / new shit don’t excite me no more / guess that they don’t really make ‘em like me no more. You can look me in my eyes and see I ain’t myself / ’cause if you’re what I created, then I hate myself.” What’s prompting these feelings, Drake never specifically mentions, only leaving us asides. It’s all about people having feelings about him they don’t express thoughts they don’t say, a whole world of maybe-dislike he’ll–and we’ll–never know whether he’s inventing.
By “people,” of course, Drake mostly means women–well, every woman but one, the unnamed exception who, as in “Marvin’s Room,” gets to hear all this. Pop culture writer Molly Lambert said on Grantland about “Marvin’s Room” and similar mope-n-b songs like Lil Wayne’s (LINK ME LINK ME) “Dear Anne“:
They are the logical flip side of the other songs, the ones about doing every girl in the world. They’re all about just wanting somebody to talk to. These rappers just want one somebody to understand them, to see through the larger-than-life persona to the regular person underneath, and then accept that regular person for who they really are.
There’s usually more than that, though. “Trust Issues” is built just like one of Drake’s seduction songs, all crooning sighs and sudden falsetto and confessions only you’re worthy to hear. In other words, Drake wants this woman–and you, the listener, the other person on the other end–to see the real person underneath, then give him a pity fuck. You’re never quite sure how much of this is Drake-the-character and how much is Drake-the-person, and that’s the most uncomfortable part of all.

(QWEEN BEE) @ Glastonbury..........
Beyoncé offered a glimpse on Monday night of what audiences can expect from her Glastonbury headline slot during a warm-up show in France.
Opening with Crazy in Love and flanked by an all-female band, the 29-year-old performed three cover versions among her solo hits, at least two of them – Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Kings of Leon's Sex on Fire – were rock anthems tailored for a Glastonbury crowd.
With her fourth album, 4, due for release on Monday, Beyoncé premiered new songs including the horn-inflected End of Time and latest single Best Thing I Never Had, as well as a medley of Destiny's Child tracks.
The singer's Glastonbury set will feature as part of the BET awards in America on Sunday night, with her performance beamed live via satelite from Somerset.
It has also been reported that Chris Martin managed to convince a sceptical Beyoncé to play Glastonbury, with Emily Eavis telling the Radio Times that "Chris is a bit wary of people knowing he's been so involved [in the festival]. I don't know why because it's actually cool."
